January 30, 2005, marked the first International Dance Sport Taiwan Grand Prix, as well as a retirement celebration for teachers Liu Shunyi and Chen Mianjuan. Their decision to retire yet remain active is a testament to how exceptional dancers continue to pass on the legacy of sustaining life. Retiring with the prestigious titles of Taiwan and Southeast Asia's professional modern dance champions, they seem to carry a strong sense of mission.
Observing the flourishing development of standard dance worldwide, especially in mainland China, they have actively worked over the years to cultivate a population of standard dancers. From a young age, they have established professional schools to nurture top-notch dancers. Witnessing their systematic approach to talent development is truly admirable and inspiring.
In light of the fact that neighboring countries such as Japan and mainland China have large-scale and effective training programs for young dancers and adult dancers, and have achieved remarkable results internationally, it is worth our reflection and learning. Teachers Liu Shunyi and Chen Mianjuan hope to do their utmost to impart all the dance skills they acquired during their more than ten years of study in the UK under world champion instructors, without losing ground.
In 2004, they gathered dance enthusiasts from various backgrounds to establish the "International Dance Sport Development Association of the Republic of China," which was officially founded in July 2004 after passing government review, with Teacher Liu Shunyi serving as the first president.
Under President Liu's leadership, the association currently hosts large international competitions, including the WDC Professional Standard Dance World Cup Asia Tour Taipei Station on February 28 and the WDC-AL World Cup in Standard Dance, which not only increases the international visibility of Taiwanese competitors but also enhances the international perspective of Taiwanese audiences, thereby promoting Taiwan's recognition on the international stage.
Purpose of the Association
>> By hosting the "2/28 Asian Dance Tour Taipei Open," we aim to showcase Taiwan to the world.
>> The association is organizing a large international competition to promote upward development - the Professional Standard Dance World Series Asia Tour Taipei Station on February 28. This event allows Taiwanese competitors and audiences to enjoy performances from over 100 top dancers from more than 30 countries without having to travel abroad.
It also provides an opportunity for them to compete on the same stage, thereby facilitating the integration of Taiwan's standard dance scene with the international stage, enhancing the international visibility of Taiwanese dancers, and broadening the international perspective of both competitors and audiences.
>> The association is rooted in organizing the WDC-AL Taiwan Amateur Circuit Points Competition, providing substantial prize money and annual points bonuses (or airfare) to offer tangible support to young players.
At the same time, it regularly holds workshops and individual coaching sessions with renowned instructors from both domestic and international backgrounds to enhance the players' competitiveness, allowing young athletes to advance to higher levels.
>> To increase the popularity of learning ballroom dancing among the people of Taiwan, promote an appreciation for it, and allow everyone to experience the vibrant energy and health benefits of ballroom dancing, making it a national sport for all.
